A Hydrafacial is a device-led facial that combines cleansing, exfoliation and hydration through a single vortex-technology handpiece. Its spiral tip delivers active solutions while gently drawing debris out of the pores, with no manual squeezing and no trauma to the skin.

Hydrafacial is a trademarked device and protocol, not a generic name for any hydrating facial. A salon either has the machine or it does not. That is worth checking when you compare menus, because similar sounding treatments elsewhere are performed on different equipment and work differently.

The handpiece is the defining part. Where a therapist working by hand has to press and release around a blocked pore, the spiral tip works by vacuum, so pressure on the skin stays low and constant. Cleansing, exfoliation, extraction and hydration all happen as that one tip moves across the face.

The treatment moves through stages: a gentle acid resurfacing, a painless extraction of blackheads and sebum, then an infusion of serums with hyaluronic acid, peptides and antioxidants. Skin looks clearer and fresher straight after the session, with no redness or flaking.

A Hydrafacial suits almost every skin type, sensitive included: the peel strength and serum mix are chosen for you rather than fixed. It is a strong choice for enlarged pores, dullness, dehydration and uneven tone, and works well as an express glow before an event or a shoot.

Because there is no recovery period, it fits an appointment close to something that matters. Make-up and the rest of your day are fine straight afterwards, and there is no flaking or peeling phase to work around.

It is best postponed with active inflammation, an acne or rosacea flare, or broken skin anywhere in the treatment area. For mild breakouts and congested pores the treatment helps clear the pores and even out the skin, but active inflammatory acne is a medical problem and needs a dermatologist first.

If you are already under a dermatologist's care, agree the plan with them before booking: a Hydrafacial complements medical treatment but does not replace it.

Every three to four weeks is the usual rhythm, in step with the skin's renewal cycle. Your specialist sets the exact frequency around your skin's condition and what you are treating.
