What is balayage?
The word describes how the colour is applied rather than the shade it produces. Lightener goes on strand by strand with a brush, freehand, and the colourist places brightness where the sun would naturally lift it: through the lengths and ends, softly feathered away from the roots.
There are no foils, which is what produces the diffused gradient rather than a repeating pattern.
The roots stay deeper than the lengths. That is why the interval before the next appointment is eight to twelve weeks.
How is balayage different from highlights?
Classic highlights are done on foils. They start closer to the root and give a more uniform, contrasting pattern.

Balayage, shatush, ombré or Air Touch: what the menu separates
These four names appear together on the price lists, and the way they are grouped is worth reading before you book.
They are different techniques, and the clearest line between them is foil. Air Touch is a closed technique, performed using foil. Shatush is an open technique, performed without foil. Which technique is used changes the finished result.
At Dubai Marina and Palm Jumeirah, balayage, shatush and ombré share one row per length. Short is AED 1100, medium AED 1300, long AED 1550, extra long AED 1850, with a stylist at the first tier. Which of the three you choose is a question about the result, since the price is the same.
Air Touch is priced on its own, and higher: AED 1450 short, AED 1500 for a half head, AED 1900 medium, AED 2200 long, again at the first tier.
Downtown Dubai groups them differently. Its section is headed Balayage / Shatush / Airtouch, and the priced rows name balayage and AirTouch. Ombré does not appear in the heading there, and shatush has no row of its own.
Colour correction sits at the end of every one of those sections, from AED 2000.
What happens during the appointment?
- Consultation and colour map. You agree the look, your base and colour history are assessed, and a realistic level of lift for a single visit is set.
- Freehand painting. Lightener goes on strand by strand, with brightness placed around the face and through the lengths.
- Toning. Once lifted, the hair is toned to the exact shade, warm or cool, and any unwanted brassiness is neutralised.
- Care and styling. A nourishing treatment for lightened hair, then a blow-out to show the gradient and the shine.

Who should wait, and what a single visit can do
If your base is dark, or previously coloured dark, a big lift may need more than one session. Only so much can be lightened safely in a single visit, and from a dark base a dramatic change is safest spread across several appointments. What is realistic for your hair in one sitting is agreed at the consultation, which is why that stage comes before any colour.
Lightened hair also needs gentler care afterwards. A colour-safe shampoo and a regular mask are part of keeping the result.

Those two branches price colour work across three specialist tiers, Hair Stylist, Top Stylist and Art Director, so each row carries three numbers. Extra long balayage is AED 1850 with a Hair Stylist, AED 2250 with a Top Stylist and AED 2710 with an Art Director. Air Touch on long hair runs AED 2200, AED 2650 and AED 3190 across the same three tiers.
The full range for balayage is therefore AED 1100 to AED 1850 at Downtown Dubai, and AED 1100 to AED 2710 at Dubai Marina and Palm Jumeirah once the tier is included.
Colour correction is from AED 2000 at all three.
How do you care for lightened hair?
Use a colour-safe shampoo and a regular mask, and a purple shampoo to keep cool tones true. Protect the hair from over-drying with hot tools, and from chlorinated pool water, which is especially relevant in Dubai.
