What is Tokio Inkarami?
Tokio Inkarami is made by IFING, a Tokyo company, and was launched in 2011. The manufacturer describes it as a system treatment designed to care for and restore keratin protein.
Hair is mostly keratin, and the manufacturer says ageing, UV, heat and chemical services gradually damage that keratin, which leaves hair weaker.
The name describes the mechanism IFING has patented. Keratin with a low molecular weight penetrates the hair, which is the "IN", and then bonds into larger molecules inside it, which is the "KARAMI", a word the manufacturer translates as interlocking.
What does the treatment do?
The manufacturer says the treatment cares for and restores the keratin inside the hair. It names two signs of severely damaged hair, breaking when pulled and stretching too far when wet, and says that by restoring strength the treatment helps guide damaged hair back toward a healthier condition.
The products also contain fullerene. IFING describes it as an antioxidant that helps protect hair from UV and other stress, and says it supports longer-lasting results.
What are the steps?
The salon system is a set of numbered products. The manufacturer lists them in this order:
- A pre-shampoo, which removes residual oils and impurities so the treatment can penetrate.
- Product 0, which the manufacturer says enhances penetration and moisture.
- Product 1, which supplies keratin.
- Product 2, which reacts with that keratin to build strength and elasticity.
- Product 3, which adds further keratins to complete the reaction.
- Product 4, which repairs and moisturises the surface of the hair for texture.
Several of the numbers come in more than one variant. The manufacturer says the selection can be tailored to your hair type, your concerns and the treatments your hair has had before, and it does not publish a fixed procedure or timings. Ask your stylist which products your appointment uses.

The manufacturer writes for damaged hair, and names the causes as ageing, UV exposure, heat and chemical processes. It does not publish a list of people who should avoid the treatment.

How long do the results last?
The manufacturer does not give a figure. It calls the results long-lasting and durable, without a number of weeks or washes.

All three salons book it for an hour and a half to two hours. Longer hair takes the longer slot at Dubai Marina and Palm Jumeirah, where short and medium hair are booked for an hour and a half and extra long hair for two hours.
